So what’s up with the name GeekChristians?

GeekChristians was originally a domain name I’d purchased to bring individuals that were both geeks (like me) and Christians (again, like me) together in a forum setting.  After a year or so of having the domain, I’d read an article in the Nashville Scene (a local newspaper) from a writer belittleing Christians for putting the fish symbol on their vehicles, specifically work vehicles.  It kind of ticked me off, I mean what’s up with that?  Wasn’t this nation founded upon Christian values, and now we have to hide our faith to be politically and socially correct?  Well, that’s when I decided to change my name of five years from PcHouseDoc.com to GeekChristians.com.

To me, Christianity is not something you put in a little box, and bring out on Sunday.  It’s your life.  A life that is meant to be a ministry to others; believers and non-believers, when at home, work, church, or leisure.  My chosen vocation is computers, networks, web design etc., but more importantly are the people I do the computer work for.  I cannot separate myself from Christ, we two are one, because Christ lives within me (Galatins 2:20).  Too many Christians these days are mum about their faith, too many are afraid to say, “Hey, I’m a Christian first, and an employee or business owner second.  As a result of this we have a weak, mamby pamby faith in this country.  As Jesus said in Luke 14:26, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father, mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters–yes, even his own life–he cannot be my disciple.  And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.”  This verse means we must compare our love of anything, even those most dear to us, to the love we have for Christ, and if anything or anyone takes precedence, we are not worthy to follow Him.  This includes work.

While at work I do not push Christ into the face of my clients, but I am open and caring to both their technology and spiritual needs.  If God can use me while at work, I thank Him for the opportunity to do that.  If it seems politically or socially incorrect to you, then we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
